The 2020 Season and some Good News & Bad News

Housekeeping Good News/Bad News: The good news is that I have gotten a little bit further on transferring the badgroove.com domain name over to this wordpress site. The bad news is that I am pretty darn sure we will have lost all of our previous content. That is a lot of content to lose but whatever- it happens right?

More good news, is that the 2020 NASCAR season is drawing ever closer! What is everyone’s thoughts about the season? Any favorites going into the season? Any thoughts about all the crew chief switches over at Penske? How will Martin Truex Jr fair without Cole Pearn leading his team? And will Jimmie Johnson win another race (or title) before he retires at the end of the season? So many questions but no answers only speculation.

Here are my thoughts:

  1. Regarding the crew chief switches at Penske: I think Brad and Joey kind of lose out there. They each had longstanding relationships with their respective crew chiefs and it will take awhile for them each to establish that level of trust with a new crew chief. Could I possibly type in the words crew chief more often? Probably not.
  2. I think Martin Truex Jr will be rocked even harder than the Penske drivers by the loss of his crew chief. Why? Because it was sudden. It wasn’t expected from what I hear. However, going for him is that he is driving for JGR and that might be his saving grace. JGR was super strong last year- after all they had three of the four championship berths in 2019. This might smooth the transition for Martin.
  3. Now about Jimmie- I don’t know that this will be a good year. Why? The pressure. Just look at the retirement years of Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. None of them were able to get much of a run underneath them their last year on track. But I will say if anyone can do it, it’ll be Jimmie. I think the stress of retirement and performing will not help. I don’t feel as if another championship is in the stars for him. However, he may break his winless streak like Tony Stewart did in his final year of driving cup cars. I am rooting for you Jimmie.
